About us

Hi. We are Doris and Peter, founders of Okapi toy library. We first got in contact with the concept of sharing toys trough a lending system while living in the United States of America.

To play is to have fun.

We moved there with our daughter Jasmine, who was 4 months old at the time. We were only going to stay for two years, and did not want to buy much toys. We did not have the space to store much in our small town house and we were afraid they might end up in the dumpster if we could not find another home for them when moving back to Belgium. Yet we did want Jasmine to play. We did want to give her toys. A neighbor recommended us the local toy library. It was fantastic. Every four weeks we brought Jasmine a new set of toys home. Some were real hits, others she did not touch. Every month we could try something new, without wasting money on toys Jasmine would never use, without piling them up in our small living room, and with the guarantee that other kids would enjoy them afterwards.

Shared joy is double joy.

It was a life saver. It was so great, we wanted more people to be able to enjoy such a service. Okapi toy library was born. Our mission is to bring toy lending services to as much people as possible. We are convinced that by sharing toys we can make the world a more cheerful and clean place. Our lending services strive to make toys accessible for all and encourage a culture of sustainability.
